The Traveling Illustrator

Project Outline:

Mission:

To travel the world and create a body of work - with an emphasis on authenticity and design - about the places I go.

Inspiration:

Vintage poster design from the late 19th to early 20th century.

Tools:

Computer, camera, sketchbook, brain and heart.

Timeframe:

Ongoing. No deadline. Continue project for as long as I keep traveling.

Why?:

To satisfy and expand my deep love of travel, architecture, history, graphic design, typography, and illustration.

Goal:

To travel to new places every year - whether locally, domestically or internationally.

Product:

-A body of work inspired by my travels and vintage posters

-A blog of photos, sketches, process, and anecdotes of my adventures

-An online shop

-A book

Rules:

-I cannot create work about a location or subject that I have not seen and experienced in person

-I must authentically capture the essence and personality of each place in a simple, stylized design rather than attempting photo-accuracy

-All subjects and locations should be thoroughly researched/explored

-No place is too big or too small to be a subject, be it abandoned field or bustling metropolis

-Palette limited to 10 colors at most per individual work

-All final works must contain type in the design specifying the name of the location

-Locations and subjects may be revisited and new works of the same location can be created at any time
